Richmond Dec 10, 1829.

Mrs. S. H. Campbell
Sister and wife

My dear - Time will not cure my anxiety to get home, it only makes it worse. But Patience must have room to work. I expect you will not consent to my being a politician hereafter: and I am sure unless you can come with me I will not consent to be a candidate.

I am still in Richmond and when I shall leave it I cannot tell - The people like me, and I like them, but I love them at home still better. I believe I could get a wife here pretty handy as they say - for the Ladies in the city have got a very high opinion of me. But I must have your consent first as well as my own - What do you think? I am still however, unwilling to give you up, unless I could provide well for you - and I fear you will not consent.

After this drollery I must tell you, my dear - "England with all thy faults, I love thee still." Yes my dear Selina, I can find none to supplant you - you are my woman of all the sex - and one is all that God has given to one man - I thank him for you and trust he will restore me to your arms before a great many months. I am today invited to marry a couple of gay young people this day month a gentleman from Mississippi and a lady in Richmond if I stay here so long -

----

But I hope I will be home before that day. I am kept busy night and day, and were I to stay here much longer I should expect to be as busy as at home if not more so.

I flatter myself that you are resigned to your lot and willing to wait until I have discharged my duty to my country - I think the Lord sent me here for more than political purposes - and I hope my visit to Richmond will be long remembered. My Dear, I expect to find you and my dear children glad to see me at my return and that will make amends for my long absence - I am much happier in this anticipation than John Randolph or any other old bachelor who never had courage to take a wife.

If any safe opportunity by Joseph Briant or Joseph Mathews should occur of sending 200 Dollars to Pittsburg to Messr Brown and Son for paper I wish you would do so.

Please kiss Margaretta for me, and give all the children a kiss for me, and tell them to mind their books diligently till I return - With all Christian affection to all the Brethren and Sisters in Bethany I remain theirs -

----

And now, my dear, may our good and kind and gracious Lord, keep you and bless you and my dear offspring is the prayer of

Your affectionate husband,

A. Campbell.

If you have not written me lately, write me a few lines to Fredricksburg, Va.
