Duties of Committee

  • Funding
An estimate of the total project costs must be ascertained. The better way to fund the project would be to make the expense of printing a budgeted item, just as we do other church print materials (songbooks, bible study materials). Each member, including the homebound ones, should have a copy of the work.

  • Find a writer
Propose a writer who has research and writing skills. Do not automatically plan for the minister to be the one to do the writing. He may not be interested, have neither the time nor talent for such a project.

  • Specify scope, format, and projected length of the history
Determine how the needs of the congregation would be fulfilled. What kind of history will it be possible to write? Will it be a compilation of information like births, deaths, baptisms, wedding, and missions of the congregation; or a narrative telling of the historic congregational story; or a longer, more in-depth interpretation of the whole congregational fabric? This last kind of study takes longer and requires more scholarship and skill to do.
