Uses of History
Decide how the congregation will use this study.
Publish and share it with the congregation and encourage all members to read it.
Incorporate it into a special study on the Restoration Movement for Bible classes.
Use it in congregational presentations to review the congregation's historical foundations to plan for the future.
Use it for church print materials like handouts and press releases.
Dr Robert M. Randolph, minister of the Brookline, Massachusetss, read from the January 1999 issue of Christian Chronicle, an article on the Brookline congregation. This type of information comes from the congregational history of the Brookline church. If we were writing a press release about Hillcrest for example, we would have to select other words to say; we could not simply substitute the name "Hillcrest" for "Brookline", as you cannot for your congregational report either.
Use it to tie the membership closer to the congregation and develop loyalties.
Use it as historical information to share with newspapers, libraries, historical societies, and family researchers.
Use it to tell the story on the congregational Web page like the Highland Church of Christ in Abilene. (This link will open in a new window. Simply close the window to return to the course.)
