7,250 Islands

The Philippine is made up of 7,250 islands. Luzon is the largest. The population in 1995 was almost 70 million.

The Filipino people are mostly Malayo-Indonesian with numerous tribes and people groups. Johnstone lists 111 (Johnstone, 1995:448).

Politically the Philippines has begun to shift from a military to democratic system.
