April - May 2001
Dear brothers and sisters,
Thanks to the Lord for all his blessings of love and for the opportunity to serve Him. Thanks for your spiritual and financial help.
The work of evangelism and edification of the church in Prato continues in spite of the obstacles and difficulty that Satan presents.
Recently we have begun a telephonic campaign of evangelization done mainly by Luigi and Marco. Saturday afternoons some of the brethren meet at the building to make calls to the residents of Prato asking if they know of the church of Christ in this city and if they are interested in receiving information or material for Bible study. The answers till now have been various and it is still too soon to make a valid evaluation of this method.
We continue to distribute material in the mailboxes and to distribute by means of the table placed in front of our building on Saturday afternoons.
Sergio, Davide and Marco coordinate this work. Various New Testaments have been given to those who passing by request a copy.
In this past week we have been working on the entrance hall to our building to make it more presentable by means of panels on which we have placed the story of the prodigal son and with expositions of drawings with Bible verses. Michele, Rita and Giulia are the main ones involved in this project.
Luigi, Michele and Luciano are coordinating a program of visits to the brothers and sisters who have mates that are not christians. They encourage the members and hope to be able to establish Bible studies with the non-christian mate. The project will be extended to visiting
non-christian families also.
The monthly prayer meetings of the women are having a good participation and the ladies are encouraged by this moment of sharing. The ladies are taking turns hosting and leading these meetings in a way to develop their skills. Rita and Cindy coordinate this activity.
Antonietta and Cindy continue to help me in the various activities for the youth. These activities are: weekly Sunday study on the Gospels, a study every other week on the family, a monthly meeting of communion and programming. In the months of March and April our goal was for the youth to take responsibility towards the visitors and contacts we have. Our young people have been more active in talking with our visitors and inviting the youth to attend activities. We had a pizza dinner before our
Wednesday night study a few weeks ago. Sandro, who has been attending for several months, came to the dinner and brought a friend, Andrea, who has attended other times since. This past Sunday we went bowling and Sandro came with Andrea and Andrea's girlfriend, Elisabetta. Marco also brought a friend from school.
The Friday night men's study continues and the brethren who participate are bonding always more and are assuming always more and more leadership responsibility in the church. Recently the men have had to deal with a conflict that a year ago would have resulted in damage for the church.
Instead the men have been pleased with the way they have been able to work together with the help of the Lord to avoid this problem.
Some Saturday afternoons Mike teaches singing to the members who wish to work on their singing and wish to learn new songs. Recently Antonietta finished a hymn book with new songs and is recording some songs for a future children's class.
Alfio, Lucia, and Toni continue to come on Monday nights to study with me.
Also the studies in Agliana continue and the three contacts from there continue to come to worship.
Mike has almost finished preparing lessons on the book of Mark. God willing the first part of these lessons will be distributed to the students of the Bible Study Center this month.
Thank you again for your prayers and your help in the work here. May the Lord bless us in our work together.
In Christ,
Paolo Di Luca
