1)  GOSPEL CAMPAIGNS  --  The end of March brings us to the conclusion of 3 more campaigns in the Northeast.  Three of us from Sunset, Tamara, myself and Avery Miller, joined 12 Harding University students in Glen Rock, PA for a week of activity.  Gareth and Debbie Flanary serve as the ministry family for the Glen Rock Church, Gareth did a great job of organizing the local outreaches.  Micah Walker led the Harding group in doing community services, visiting in homes and conducting Bible studies.  I preached a weekend gospel meeting and set up a Leadership Seminar for next Fall (see below).  Two young people were baptized.  The whole week flew by and it was a great experience.  The Glen Rock Church of Christ is a great influence in the southeastern part of Penn. State.  The Westminster Church, just to the east of Glen Rock, has just moved into a new facility and is likewise reaching out to surrounding communities.  Gary Pearson is the minister.  In addition to the Harding University students that went with us, another group of Harding students of similar size spent their Spring Break Week in Fall River, MA working with the Church in that community.  Mike Mullen, Fall River minister, called to say that they also had a profitable week of community outreaches.  Mike reported that the group visiting them, as with the Glen Rock group, were excellent examples of Christian young people.  The brethren in Fall River were inspired and uplifted and look forward to another group of young workers coming in the Fall, this time with Theo Jones of the Camelback Church of Christ in Phoenix, AZ.

A third group of break week campaigners to the Northeast were all from the Sunset Church here in Lubbock, they were led by Jeff Smith who is Sunset's youth minister.  This group was made up of SIBI students and members from Sunset, the group totaled 23 workers.  They went into the heart of New York City (Queens), knocked doors, combed the neighborhoods and just generally talked with people on the streets of NYC.  They were joined by Walter Maxwell and Cedric Thomas, ministers for the Fremont Church of Christ on Long Island.  Walter and Cedric are both graduates of SIBI and preached each night to good size audiences.  Two were baptized.   Greater New York City has 18 million people and our first order of Northeast business ought to be to evangelize this mega city, the leading city of the world!

2) DISTANCE LEARNING PROJECT   --  We've  reporting the progress of this project right along and we are happy to say that we are still on target for beginning the broadcasting of our SIBI Lubbock classes (live) to a remote classroom in the Fall River church building next August 2nd.  The hardware (cameras, monitors, etc.) are on order, as soon as April we hope to be testing the system with full installation being complete by early summer.   We have prepared a brochure that will be mailed out to every church in the Northeast within the next few weeks.  Hopefully, by recruiting through the summer months we will have a good size class to kick-off the new distance learning classes in Fall River, MA next August.  For further information email:  charlescook00@cox.net  mikepmullen@yahoo.com

3)  NEW ENGLAND LECTURES -- APRIL 26-27 -- The theme this year will be: "Evangelizing New England."  I will be making presentations about our "Distance Learning Project" and "Evangelizing The Northeast."  Other similar subjects will be addressed...let me encourage workers from all over the Northeast to attend...this will be a chance for us to put our heads together and get serious about spreading the Gospel in our own nation.  Here are two brothers to contact for information:  Herschel Walker HWalker222@aol.com  Mike Mullen  mikepmullen@yahoo.com

4)  LEADERS AND WIVES RETREAT -- While participating in the March campaigns in the Northeast I found a day to meet with brethren at the Huntingtown Church of Christ and plan our Leaders and Wives Retreat next October.  Darren Beachy, minister at Huntingtown, is coordinating this effort with me.  The theme will be: Leadership Development.  Truitt Adair, SIBI director, and yours truly will present leadership lessons and these will be followed by discussions and fellowship.  This has really been an enjoyable time for church leaders, ministers and their wives for the last few years...we want to encourage our readers to attend this activity next October.  Further information will be forthcoming.

5)  PLEASE NOTE OUR EMAIL CHANGE  charlescook00@cox.net and ccook@sibi.cc   Our web site has been moved over onto Sunset’s site….now you can find us at  www.sibe.cc/focusnortheast/default.htm  Also, please note that we have revised the Sunset International Bible Institute site at www.sibi.cc   If you know of anyone interested in being on our mail out list for news about the Northeast, please forward their email to us at charlescook00@cox.net

6)   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BRIDGEWATER CHURCH OF CHRIST  -- Adam and Maebelle Hudson, current SIBI graduates, will be moving this week to Bridgewater, NJ to take up the work of ministry with the Bridgewater Church of Christ.  As we said in our last report, the Hudsons are a great couple and we are thrilled by the prospects of their influence and work in the Northeast.  Bridgewater is a great church and this is a great couple, they will make a great team.

FOCUS NORTHEAST: Focus Northeast was started at Sunset International Bible Institute to see what we could do to help spread the Gospel in the 11 states referred to as the Northeast.  Primarily it started as an effort to get more of our graduates to move up that way.  In the last 4 years we have gotten about a dozen of our graduating families to take up a work in the NE, there are several in training now who are interested in moving there.  Also, wherever a preacher family is needed we try to help find a good man for the job.  We hold meetings and do leadership seminars during those times we are freed up from teaching at SIBI.  If there is anything we can do to help brethren build up the Cause of Christ in the Northeast…we stand by to serve.  May God bless all those who faithfully serve Him, in the Northeast, the whole nation and the whole world.

This work is under the oversight of the Sunset Church of Christ elders, 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX. I am an instructor in Bible and Missions at the Sunset International Bible Institute, Lubbock, TX. We are working on behalf of efforts to train and establish missionaries in the Northeastern States of the U.S., to assist struggling churches in that area, to help plant new congregations in these states, and to encourage the assistance of brethren everywhere. Churches and individuals wanting to join us in this endeavor are asked to contact us at charlescook00@cox.net or ccook@sibi.cc

In His Service,

Charles and Tamara Cook
